Matthew 12:25 *And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand:*
Jesus statement that a house divided against itself would fall has far reaching implications. But I believe the greatest begins in our homes. Our nation is in a mess today because our homes are in a mess. Sad, but true. The home is the foundation of all other institutions. Including government. And when there is no authority in our home, you can expect their to be problems with authority other places. Government, jobs, church.
God has a reason for authority. One small, simple word. Order. Without someone in charge, how unruly and confusing things become. Then come the fights and arguments over who is going to get their way. Ultimately, this leads to destruction. Selfishness, pride, and rebellion are often the culprits in refusing to submit to those in authority.
If a child can't learn to obey those in authority over them in the home, if they can't see mom submit herself to dad as the one in authority in the home, then parents had better prepare themselves for trouble at school, Sunday School, and elsewhere. The child will struggle with being in submission to their boss one day when they make their debut in the working world.
Authority IS a GOOD thing! Why can't we realize that? I will agree that some use their position unwisely. Although I also believe they will be held accountable to God for the abuse of their position. But all in all, God knows that we need authority and submission to keep things under control. To keep things from being chaotic. Submission is not punishment. It essential to keep things running smoothly.
Children need to submit to parents; wives to husbands; husbands to Christ; the congregation to their pastor. Without authority and submission, the world would be a confusing, chaotic place. Ladies, our homes, I believe, have made it to this point.
My children know that they need to obey their parents because this is what God wants. But I have also told them that even though Mom has instructed them in one direction, Dad can override Mom's decision. Yes, this sometimes upsets me if he does this. But ultimately Dad is the one who must give an account to God as the leader in his home, and mom will give an account in her role as a submissive wife. If he decides that things need to be different, then I will abide by what he decides out of my desire to do God's will and my respect for my husband's authority in our home.
Yes, a home, a nation, a church divided will fall. Why? There will be no harmony. Only chaos.
The End
